Take a comprehensive look at the history and principles that are driving online communications. Starting with an overview of social media, explore the definition of online community and learn to identify key stakeholders and how they engage with their community model. Develop your knowledge of the range of social media channels and tools and options for sharing content. Learn the fundamental steps in building a social media campaign while managing risk and overall organizational concerns. Evaluate how different organizations and communities can use social media to meet their business goals.

This course is offered in two formats: in-class and 100% online. Please note we may not offer both formats every term.
In-class: Our in-class courses are designed to encourage participants to take an active role in content discussions and class presentations. Courses are offered throughout the year, are approximately four weeks in length, and are held on-site at UBC Robson Square, downtown Vancouver.
Online: Our online courses are structured to provide a positive learning environment for participants to engage in and interact with the content and other participants, as well as with the online tutor – an industry professional. Tutors facilitate the learning throughout the course and are available to provide feedback and guidance as you navigate through the content. Courses are delivered online over approximately six weeks and involve an average of six-to-ten hours of study per week.
Prior to 4pm PST on the start date of the course, an email will be sent to all registered participants containing instructions on how to access the online course.
