The UBC Sauder Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) Exam Prep Program is designed for CFA® candidates looking for support and knowledge in preparing for the CFA® Levels 1, 2 and 3 exams.

Delivered by a team of supportive and expert instructors, the UBC CFA® Exam Prep Course and Boot Camp deliver necessary study tools and support to help improve students' exam performance. Exam-taking strategies to prepare for a successful exam performance are also provided.

UBC CFA® Exam Prep Course

The UBC CFA® Exam Prep Course is intended for students looking for a structured classroom learning environment to ensure they invest the appropriate amount of time necessary to stay focused on exam success. The courses led by a team of expert instructors are designed to maximize learning in a collaborative supportive environment.

UBC CFA® Exam Boot Camp

The UBC CFA® Exam Boot Camp is designed for students who have significant prior course or self-study history in the subject matter, but are concerned about CFA® knowledge retention. The intensive final review Boot Camp will consolidate prior learning and provide exam-taking strategies to prepare for a successful CFA® exam performance. Classes are held close to the exam date to ensure maximum retention.

Registration/Withdrawals

Registrations will close 2 business days prior to the class start date. Withdrawal requests must be submitted by one business day prior to the class start date to be eligible for a refund. Please note, eligible withdrawal requests will incur a 5% processing fee which will be deducted from any refund granted.

Celene Chan

Celene Chan

CFA

Celene is currently the Vice President, Finance at Alabaster Homes, a Vancouver-based real estate development firm specializing in premier townhome and condominium projects. In her role, Celene oversees the finance team in corporate finance strategy and execution, business development, capital structure planning and analysis, financial reporting, treasury, risk management and regulatory compliance.
 
Prior to joining Alabaster, Celene was an institutional investment manager for a charitable foundation and its benefactor family, advising on a globally diversified portfolio of assets, including private equity, private debt, pooled funds and public securities. Celene has extensive investment experience in real estate, oil and gas, and marine transport sectors, and is a specialist in financial modeling and transaction due diligence.  In addition to advanced degrees in Economics from UBC and SFU, Celene has been a CFA charterholder since 2016 and completed the CIM designation in 2015.

Michael Cao

Michael Cao

CFA

Michael Cao is a research analyst at Connor, Clark & Lunn Investment Management Ltd. in the quantitative equities division, where he develops return and risk forecasting models to enhance the active long-only and market-neutral investment strategies in constructing and managing global equity portfolios.


Michael obtained his Bachelor's degree in Mathematics & Statistics at Imperial College London in the U.K. and was awarded a Master of Quantitative Finance from University of Waterloo in Canada.


He completed the CFA Program in 2013, passing all three exams on first attempts.

Darren Degraaf

Darren Degraaf

CFA

Darren is currently an independent contractor for a number of international finance training companies.  His main responsibilities include lecturing, curriculum development, training instructors (train-the-trainers) on best practices, and business development.  In addition, Darren is a lecturer at the Sauder School of Business, University of British Columbia as well as the British Columbia Institute of Technology.

Before working in the education industry, he spent 5 years as a Senior Manager at HSBC Bank. In this position, he focused on the credit risk exposure of the bank's lending portfolio. Prior to that, Darren held various analytical and accounting positions in HSBC's Finance, Asset Management, and Insurance divisions - over some 13 years.

Emrul Hasan

Emrul Hasan

M. Emrul Hasan, CFA, FRM, Ph.D., has been training CFA exam candidates for over five years at different institutions. He is a full-time Lecturer at the Vancouver School of Economics of University of British Columbia, BC, Canada. Before joining UBC, Emrul taught economics and finance courses at Simon Fraser University (SFU), British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), and Douglas College.

Before working in the education industry, Emrul spent several years as Investment Analyst and Consultant at different investment banks, manufacturing firms, and think-tanks such as Fraser Institute and Asian Tiger Capital Partners Ltd. He mostly worked on new venture and private equity valuation, M&A, and writing sector and industry reports while providing sound advice on investment and portfolio management. He is also an active academic researcher working on topics such as capital gains taxes, asset pricing, behavioral finance, IPO and SEO underpricing.

Martin McNish

Martin McNish

Martin McNish is a Portfolio Manager at Odlum Brown where he started his began his career in 2008. He was a finalist for the Investment Industry Association of Canada Top Under 40 award. He received his charter in 2013 and has been a Level III instructor since 2015.

Requirements

It is strongly recommended that students be fluent in written and spoken business English.

Where are CFA Test Prep courses held?

CFA Test Prep courses are held at either the UBC Point Grey campus or the UBC Robson Square campus. The location of each course will be listed under the Registration link.
