Martha Rans, barrister & solicitor and founder of Lawshare, has over 20 years of expertise as a lawyer, and specializes in intellectual property, non-profits, charity law, governance, privacy, employment, copyright and trademark strategic advice for digital creators and sharers of all kinds. She also has extensive experience as labour, employment and human rights lawyer/mediator. Martha is an advocate for public legal education and information and was project lead for Creative Commons Canada. She is Legal Director of the Artists' Legal Outreach, also currently teaching at Emily Carr University Art and Design, and was nominee in 2009 for the YWCA Woman of Distinction Award. Her clients include those involved in charities and non-profits, cooperatives and social enterprise, individual artists and graphic designers, as well as digital creative clients (Raised Eyebrow Web Studio, Vancouver is Awesome) and arts organizations ( Museum of Vancouver, PuSh Festival, Progress Lab (Creative Space Society)).

Martha holds a diploma in International Law and Development, Institute of Social Studies, the Hague, and a LLB bachelor degree, University of Ottawa/Universite d’Ottawa.
